Swallowing and Voice Disorders
Our larynx (voice box) is one of the most utilized and invaluable forms of communication as well as the mechanism for swallowing. An ENT can assist with an examination and treatment of voice and swallowing disorders. While the most common causes of voice or swallowing complaints are benign, there can also be very serious problems such as cancer responsible for these issues. Early evaluation and treatment can significantly improve the duration of symptoms and prognosis.
Common causes of swallowing and voice problems:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
- Laryngeal (Voice Box) Cancer
- Nodules, Polyps, Cysts
- Vocal Cord Paralysis
- Vocal Abuse/Strain
- Upper Respiratory Infections
